With decades of tradition and craftsmanship, Islander Sportfishing carries a legacy of adventure. Our vessel’s story reflects dedication, safety, and passion for the ocean, carried forward with pride today.
All trips are conducted aboard the M/V Islander, a U.S.-flagged vessel certified and inspected annually by the U.S. Coast Guard. Every crew member is enrolled in the USCG drug testing program, and safety remains our top priority on every voyage.
Over the past 15 seasons, Islander Sportfishing has led nearly 10,000 anglers on successful offshore adventures. From legendary Albacore runs to record-setting Bluefin seasons, the Islander has been a proud and consistent force in the San Diego long-range scene.
The Islander has a rich history. Originally built in 1968 in Costa Mesa, CA, by Ditmar Donaldson as the Red Rooster II, this vessel is part of the golden age of West Coast plank boat building. Constructed with double-planked Honduran mahogany, she remains one of the strongest wooden boats still in service today.
Though we’ve upgraded many systems in the past five years, the Islander’s original hull remains largely untouched — a testament to both her craftsmanship and her story. For over 50 years, this vessel has served the same waters with the same dedication, and we’re proud to continue that legacy with every trip.
