Islander Spear Fishing: Home

Like to freedive and spearfish? We do too. We’ve been diving California and Baja for over 25 years and understand the specific needs and wants of spear fishermen. Come with us to dive the same productive areas that we fish!

Whether it’s the Cortez Bank, Thetis Bank, or one of the pristine islands that dot the coast of Baja or California you will not find a dive boat better suited to put you on fish and provide the support necessary for a successful trip.

10 day trips: Join us each fall for long range diving that encompasses the entire length of the Baja Peninsula. We dive Cedros and Benitos, Ridge, Alijos Rocks and Mag Bay. Target species will include White Seabass, Yellowtail, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Marlin, Dorado, Pargo and Grouper.

5-8 day trips: San Benitos Islands, Sacramento Reef, Cedros Island and Chesters Rocks are favorites for White Seabass, Trophy Yellowtail, Trophy Halibut and Grouper. Our primary destinations on a trip of this length will be to Cedros and Benitos. These are unbelievable fisheries that you have to see to believe.

1-3 day trips: For those looking to dive closer to home, San Clemente, Cortez bank and the isolated kelp beds, reefs and islands down the Mexican coast are excellent dive destinations for big White Seabass, Yellowtail and Halibut. Our chase skiffs are always in the water anytime divers are. We keep a watchful but distant eye on divers ensuring not to spook the quarry. A wave of the gun is our que to pick up a fish or lend a helping hand.

A note on spearfishing using SCUBA
Hunting is allowed on Scuba in California waters only. Divers collecting game in California must be in possession of a current fishing license and possess appropriate measuring devices.

In Mexican waters, spearfishing is only permitted while freediving. Mexican regulations also prohibit the taking of any and all shellfish. Look but don't touch. All freedivers spearfishing in Mexico waters must possess a Mexican fishing permit.
